Date Difference Calculator
Count the days, weeks, months and working days between two dates.
Difference
–
How many days are there between two dates? This calculator answers in several units at once: total days, weeks and days, years, months and days, and Monday-to-Friday working days.
Use it for deadlines, notice periods, trip planning, pregnancy and project timelines, or counting down to a date.
How date difference calculator works
Choose a start date and an end date. By default the start day is counted and the end day is not, so 1 January to 2 January is one day. Tick the option to include the end date if you want both days counted, as some contracts and hotel stays do.
Working days count Monday to Friday only. Public holidays differ by country and region, so they are not subtracted. Subtract them yourself if they apply.
The formula
Days between = end date − start date (calendar days)
Weeks = Days ÷ 7, with the remainder shown as daysCalendar days already include leap days. No manual adjustment is needed.
Worked example: 1 January to 25 December 2024
2024 is a leap year, so February has 29 days.
The gap is 359 days, which is 51 weeks and 2 days.
In years, months and days: 11 months and 24 days.
Counting the end date as well gives 360 days.
When to use this tool
- Working out a notice period or a statutory deadline.
- Counting the days left until an event, exam or trip.
- Estimating how many working days a project has between start and delivery.
- Finding the length of a stay, a contract or a subscription term.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Being off by one because of inclusive versus exclusive counting. Decide whether both end dates count.
- Assuming every month has 30 days when converting to months.
- Treating working days as if they exclude public holidays. They only exclude weekends here.
