Add each course with its letter grade and credit hours and the calculator returns your GPA on the common 4.0 scale. To include earlier terms, enter your current GPA and credits and the tool combines them into a cumulative figure.
Grading scales differ between schools. The grade point table is shown so you can check it against your own institution's.
How gpa calculator works
Each grade is converted to grade points, multiplied by the credit hours for that course, and the results are added. The sum is divided by total credit hours. A three-credit A therefore counts for more than a one-credit A.
Courses with no grade or zero credits are ignored. Pass or fail courses usually do not count towards GPA, so leave them out.
The formula
GPA = Σ (grade points × credits) ÷ Σ credits
A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B− = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C− = 1.7, D+ = 1.3, D = 1.0, D− = 0.7, F = 0Some schools treat A+ as 4.3 or add weight for honours courses. Use your school's own table where it differs.
Worked example: four courses in one semester
A− in a 3-credit course: 3.7 × 3 = 11.1 points.
B in a 4-credit course: 3.0 × 4 = 12.0. A in a 3-credit course: 4.0 × 3 = 12.0. C+ in a 2-credit course: 2.3 × 2 = 4.6.
Total points 39.7 over 12 credits gives a GPA of 3.31.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Averaging the grade points without weighting by credits.
- Including pass or fail courses that do not carry grade points at your school.
- Assuming every school uses the same scale. Check whether A+ counts above 4.0 and whether honours courses are weighted.
